Global law firm Dentons has strengthened its Energy, Transport, and Infrastructure team in Oman and the Middle East with the promotion of Yasser Taqi to a partnership.

Taqi is an England and Wales qualified lawyer, who joined Dentons as one of the firm's first trainees from the Middle East region. After over a decade in Dentons' offices in London, Dubai, and Muscat, he is now the first Omani lawyer to be promoted to partner.

Paul Jarvis, the chief executive officer at Dentons UK, Ireland, and the Middle East, said, "Taqi's promotion to partner is a testament to the dedication and hard work that he has demonstrated. His promotion further strengthens Dentons' leading practice in Oman, which remains an important market for the firm."

Andrew Figgins, the managing partner at Dentons Oman, remarked, "As our business in Oman continues to evolve in line with market requirements, Taqi's promotion comes as a result of our clear focus on the development of our talented Omani colleagues, at the time when the firm celebrates its 40th year in Oman, and paves the way for continued success in serving our clients in the region."

Taqi has advised on numerous significant and high-profile mandates including drafting the rules for the region's first spot market for the wholesale of electricity; developing Oman's largest utility-scale solar PV IPP; handling construction sector arbitrations, and construction contracts; and negotiating concession agreements in the oil and gas, mining, and ports sectors.

He will continue to support clients in Oman and across the Middle East on energy, infrastructure, and natural resources projects, with a growing focus on renewable energy and green hydrogen.

An expert in the regulatory framework for power and water in both Oman and Saudi Arabia, he was the first lawyer to be awarded the prestigious NTI 'Business Professional of the Year' in 2019. He ranked as an 'Associate to Watch' and a 'Rising Star' in the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories, respectively. He has served as a non-executive director on the board of Outward-Bound Oman since March 2020.
