RPC Strengthens Asia-Pacific Presence With New Partner Kiat Wee Lau

RPC has strengthened its corporate practice by appointing Kiat Wee Lau as a Partner in its Singapore office, a strategic move to enhance the firm’s capabilities across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Antony Sassi, RPC’s Managing Partner for Asia, emphasized the significance of the appointment: “With Singapore continuing to position itself as a major financial centre for the region, with access to key markets such as India and Indonesia, Kiat Wee’s appointment further strengthens our regional corporate offering and will enable us to better support our clients across Asia.”

Lau brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a director at Quahe Woo & Palmer (QWP) since 2019 and as a Partner at WongPartnership for 11 years before that. He is a specialist in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) with a focus on financial regulation, funds, and Variable Capital Companies (VCC) formation. His diverse clientele includes private equity firms, venture capitalists, private wealth investors, and hedge funds, with investments spanning Singapore, Indonesia, China, India, and the broader APAC region.

Notable clients Lau has advised include Tencent Holdings, JTC Corporation, Nestlé, City Developments Limited, Bain Capital, Petronas, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure, and Blackstone Group. His expertise in cross-border transactions and financial regulation will be instrumental as RPC aims to deepen its regional presence.

Lau joins RPC’s Singapore-based corporate practice, which was launched in July 2023 with the addition of Kenneth Leong, another hire from QWP. Leong heads the practice, which now boasts nine partners, solidifying RPC's position as a formidable player in the regional corporate law landscape.

Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Lau said, "RPC offers a dynamic, international platform for my practice. I am eager to leverage my cross-border transaction experience and collaborate with the talented team here to attract new clients and enhance the firm’s offerings."
