Prominent South African Litigation Lawyer joins Bowmans as Partner
Prominent African legal firm Bowmans continues to enhance its dispute resolution capabilities in South Africa, welcoming experienced litigation attorney Vanessa Jacklin-Levin as a Partner within its Johannesburg Litigation Practice.
“Vanessa is one of the most highly regarded dispute resolution lawyers in South Africa, with a formidable combination of skills, not only in litigation, adjudications, and arbitrations but also in risk, governance, and compliance,” Ezra Davids, Bowmans chairman and senior partner, said.
Before this, Jacklin-Levin had a six-year stint at the global law firm Dentons, where she held the position of Head of Dispute Resolution in South Africa and also served as the Office Managing Partner in Johannesburg.
She has represented multinational corporations on a global scale, along with South African listed, unlisted, and state-owned enterprises, in a multitude of prominent cases spanning mining, energy, construction, retail, real estate, franchising, distribution, as well as infrastructure and public-private partnerships. Beyond her involvement in dispute resolution, Jacklin-Levin offers guidance to clients in areas such as risk assessment, risk mitigation, compliance, governance, and franchising.
Before her tenure at Dentons, Jacklin-Levin held the position of partner at Bouwer Kobeli Morabe (BKM) Attorneys, a firm she acquired in 2005 and successfully managed for 12 years.
Following the completion of her LLB degree at the University of Johannesburg, she commenced her professional journey as a candidate attorney at Bowmans, progressively advancing to the role of senior associate. During this progression, she garnered extensive expertise in areas including commercial litigation, commercial law, and employment law.
Possessing the privilege of representing clients in the High Court, Jacklin-Levin currently contributes as a committee member to the Legal Practice Council's Investigating, Disciplinary & Mediation Committee. Beyond her legal roles, she has spearheaded various community and global endeavours aimed at advancing gender equality and fostering an engaged and responsible citizenry.
“Effective dispute resolution is a prerequisite for overcoming business challenges in a tough economy, and Vanessa’s skills and experience will be put to good use as she hits the ground running,” Davis added.
