Mimecast elevates Chris Dollase as its General Counsel
Mimecast, a Lexington, Massachusetts-based company, has announced the promotion of Chris Dollase to the role of general counsel, effective February 1. Dollase, who currently serves as the company's deputy counsel and compliance head, has over 20 years of experience leading legal teams in the cybersecurity industry. He will be taking over the role from Robert Nault.
Dollase joined the company five years ago as vice president and deputy general counsel. Since then, he has been leading the company's compliance function. Prior to joining Mimecast, Dollase spent more than 15 years at RSA Security, where he served as lead counsel for 10 years. He started his career in private practice at Testa Hurwitz & Thibeault.
Rafe Brown, Mimecast President And Chief Operating Officer, termed Dollase an invaluable member of Mimecast.
"As an organization we have ambitious goals, and Chris' expertise in cybersecurity, corporate governance and compliance, strategic and commercial transactions and employment, will be critical in helping us meet our objectives. We thank Bob for his numerous contributions to Mimecast and wish him the best for his next chapter," Brown said.
Robert Nault is stepping down as the General Counsel of Mimecast after six years with the company. Before joining Mimecast, Nault served as general counsel at Constant Contact for nine years and also held the same position at RSA Security, during which time he overlapped with Chris Dollase.
Dollase's promotion to the role of General Counsel follows the company's acquisition by private equity firm Permira in May of last year. The take-private deal valued Mimecast at $5.8 billion. A team from Goodwin Procter advised Mimecast on the transaction, while Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson acted for Permira.
During his time at Mimecast, Dollase has helped the company navigate seven acquisitions, including MessageControl and Segasec in 2020, and Solebit in 2018 for $88 million. Mimecast has stated that they expect Dollase to play a significant role in maintaining the company's culture and delivering on its growth strategy.
"I am proud to serve as General Counsel at Mimecast and look forward to working alongside our team to continue delivering value to our customers and partners and to our global Mimecast colleagues," said Dollase.
He added that compliance and data protection are mission-critical to Mimecast, and as a legal team, they will continue to put privacy and data protection first for all customers of the firm.
