Lucid Group Appoints Matt Everitt as General Counsel

Tesla rival Lucid Group has appointed Matt Everitt as its new general counsel, filling the position vacant since Jonathan Butler's departure six months ago. This marks the end of the company's search for a legal leader to steer its ambitious growth trajectory.

Everitt brings a wealth of automotive industry experience to Lucid, having served as general counsel for Mercedes-Benz USA for the past decade. In his new role, he will oversee all legal matters and provide strategic guidance to support Lucid's expansion plans.

"Matt's impressive legal background, deep understanding of the automotive landscape, and strategic mindset make him the ideal choice to lead our legal department as we accelerate growth in the coming years," stated Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid Group.

Everitt's career path has equipped him with diverse legal expertise. Before joining Mercedes-Benz USA, he served as senior counsel at Daimler in Germany, managing their FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) compliance programme after a settlement with US authorities. He also held positions as an assistant US attorney and an associate at White & Case.

"I am excited to join such an inspiring company," said Everitt. "Lucid's products set an incredibly high bar for automotive companies, and I'm energised to join at a time when the company is poised to expand further."

Everitt's appointment follows Jonathan Butler's departure in July 2023 after three years at Lucid. His arrival marks a new chapter for the company's legal department, coinciding with Lucid's ambitious growth plans.
