Hong Kong junior commercial barrister Thomas Wong joins London's Twenty Essex
Thomas Wong, a leading Hong Kong junior barrister, has joined London commercial set Twenty Essex after completing a shortened three-month pupillage. He has spent over five years as a tenant at Denis Chang's Chambers and brings significant experience as a commercial litigator to the firm.
Before transferring to the Bar in 2018, Thomas Wong spent almost a decade working as a solicitor. He has experience at firms such as Hogan Lovells and Clifford Chance, having trained and qualified at the respected local firm Wilkinson & Grist in 2010. He was called to the England and Wales Bar in 2021 and completed his pupillage with Andrew Fulton KC after passing the Bar Transfer Test and the required qualifying sessions.
Wong's practice will continue to focus on commercial litigation and international arbitration in England, Hong Kong, and Singapore. He will retain his tenancy at Denis Chang's Chambers and will continue to practice in Hong Kong's courts. He will also make use of Twenty Essex's Singapore annex and its London headquarters, allowing him to provide services to clients in multiple jurisdictions.
Wong brings with him significant experience in Hong Kong chancery and insolvency matters, which complement the offshore work focused on the British Virgin Islands (BVI) of silks like former head of chambers Stephen Atherton KC. This will allow Twenty Essex to expand its service offering in these areas.
"Thomas is a highly experienced litigator who we have every confidence will continue to build on his practice at the Bar in Hong Kong, now in and from London. His addition to chambers is a perfect fit for our ever-growing practice in and from the Far East," Philip Edey KC and Charles Kimmins KC, co-heads of Twenty Essex said in a joint statement.
