Herbert Smith Freehills Strengthens Asia Energy Team with Addition of Anthony Patten in Singapore

Herbert Smith Freehills, a prominent international law firm, has appointed Anthony Patten as a corporate partner with a specialisation in the energy sector, based in Singapore. Anthony Patten has joined Herbert Smith Freehills from King & Spalding in Singapore.

Patten enhances the depth of the firm’s Asia energy team with his comprehensive knowledge of the energy sector and extensive experience, especially in energy transition investments.

Anthony adds deep energy expertise to the team, from traditional projects to the new energy technologies that will drive the energy transition,” said Asia head of Corporate Andrew Blacoe.

His appointment will give a boost to our energy team as energy transition projects drive record investment and client demand,” Blacoe added.

Patten becomes part of a regional team with a presence across Asia, operating from offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, and Tokyo. This regional team seamlessly collaborates with the firm’s extensive global energy team, consisting of 700 professionals.

Energy transition is one of our highest priority areas for growth,” said Asia managing partner Graeme Preston.

Anthony’s appointment supports the increasing volume of energy investments into and from China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia and Europe,” Preston added.

Patten provides counsel on the latest energy technologies, covering renewables, hydrogen, ammonia, and carbon capture. His advisory services extend to corporate matters, project development, and finance within the global oil and gas and energy sectors. With a career spanning three decades, he spent six years at Shell in London and Dubai advising clients on investments across Africa, North and South America, Europe, and Asia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Melbourne and is qualified to practice law in both Australia and England & Wales.
