A&O Shearman has advised technology company Bending Spoons on its acquisition of WeTransfer, the well-known Dutch digital file-sharing and collaboration platform.

WeTransfer, founded in the Netherlands by Bas Beerens, Nalden, and Damian Bradfield, is backed by Highland Capital Partners and HPE Growth.

The acquisition, led by COO/CFO Melissa Nussbaum alongside the CEO, follows a period of accelerated growth for WeTransfer, driven by strategic product development. The platform now serves over 600,000 subscribers and 80 million monthly active users.

Bending Spoons, known for its suite of digital technology products including Evernote, Meetup, Remini, StreamYard, and Splice, has reached one billion users globally. Its products are currently utilized by more than 200 million people each month.

The A&O Shearman team provided legal advice on the cross-border acquisition with a multi-department approach. The team was led by Partners Gijs Linse and Emanuele Trucco, supported by Associates Ashton Pyke, Lousine Hovhanisian, and Niki van Douwe in Amsterdam, and Associate Enrico Roveda in Milan.
