Atsumi & Sakai Launches First Southeast Asian office In Vietnam

It is the firm’s fifth workplace overseas

Continuing its global expansion, Tokyo-based law firm, Atsumi & Sakai has inaugurated an office Atsumi & Sakai Vietnam Law Firm in Ho Chi Minh City with two Japanese and one Vietnamese lawyer.

The Japan-qualified Of Counsel Katsunori Irie is a registered foreign lawyer in Vietnam. He serves as the Ho Chi Minh City office’s representative. Another Japan-qualified associate and Vietnam-registered foreign lawyer is Taisuke Oikawa.

The Vietnam-qualified Of Counsel Thi Ngoc Anh Mai, who is not a registered foreign lawyer in Japan, previously worked at the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Nishimura & Asahi.

Atsumi & Sakai had recently opened an office in Brussels, which operates as the Japanese firm’s third European branch after London and Frankfurt.

The firm, which employs 250 lawyers, stated that the Ho Chi Minh City office would, “Provide clients with timely assistance for their business expansion in Vietnam and elsewhere in Southeast Asia, and with international projects.”

Its practice areas include cross-border M&A, local entity incorporation, corporate governance, project finance, overseas infrastructure and dispute resolution covering litigation and arbitration.

Since 2011, Atsumi & Sakai has operated in alliance with Hanoi-based A-PAC International Law Firm, which has expertise in negotiations with Vietnamese government authorities.
