Bowmans advised Standard Bank South Africa, Absa, and Nedbank on the financing of 140MW Karreebosch Wind Farm

Bowmans acted as legal advisor to Standard Bank South Africa, Absa, and Nedbank on the financing of the 140MW Karreebosch Wind Farm, owned by Cennergi and G7 Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd. The wind farm is expected to generate 460GWh of clean energy annually, significantly contributing to South Africa’s renewable energy infrastructure and energy security goals.

The project has reached financial close and will operate under a 20-year power purchase agreement, supplying clean energy to Northam Holdings, an independent integrated platinum group metal producer. The electricity will be wheeled through South Africa’s national grid, reinforcing Northam’s sustainability strategy and supporting a reduction in its carbon footprint by up to 45%.

The Karreebosch Wind Farm, financed at R1.45 billion, is the first wind project to be built, owned, and operated by G7 Renewable Energies, a pioneer in South Africa’s renewable energy sector since 2008. The project also marks a major step towards establishing one of the largest private wind farms in the region.

The Bowmans team comprised Alexandra Cluver (Partner), Alessandra Pardini (Partner), Mongezi Dladla (Partner), Simonne Heunis (Senior Associate), Lucia Selaelo (Senior Associate), Micaela Ferreira (Associate), and Zola Mdledle (Associate).
