Uttar Pradesh Government Terminates 841 Law officer
The Uttar Pradesh Government terminated the services of 841 law officers engaged to appear for the State at both benches of the Allahabad High Court, with immediate effect.
The Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Law and Justice Department notified the removal of 505 empanelled lawyers from the Principal bench of the High Court of Prayagraj and 336 laws from the Lucknow Bench.
Consequently, the Secretary issued another order to appoint 366 lawyers as law officers to the Allahabad Bench of the High Court and 220 to the Lucknow Bench.
The government's move comes shortly after the Allahabad High Court directed the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary to ask the State Cabinet whether there was a requirement to have so many Additional Advocates General (AAGs) and Chief Standing Counsel (CSC) to defend the State before the High Court.
The Chief Secretary was asked to intimate the progress made in the matter to the Court's Registrar General within two months from May 31.
