Supreme Court Designates Former Madras High Court Judge Justice PN Prakash a Senior Advocate

Justice PN Prakash, a former Madras High Court judge who retired in January 2023, has been designated a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India.

As per official notification from the Supreme Court, Justice Prakash was granted the robe during the full court session convened by the Apex Court on October 16.

Justice Prakash spent nearly three decades as a criminal law specialist practising as a lawyer at the Madras High Court before his appointment as a judge in 2013.

During his decade-old tenure as a judge of the Madras High Court, Justice Prakash was instrumental in authoring various momentous judgements and played a key role in bringing into force the Tamil Nadu Criminal Rules of Practice, 2019.

Justice Prakash is the third retired judge to be designated a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court, joining Justice Talwant Singh, a former Delhi High Court judge, and Dr. S. Muralidhar, a former Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, who were also designated as Senior Advocates by the Top Court on the same day.
