Supreme Court Collegium recommends Justice Sabina as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court
Having a tenure of two months, she will retire on 19 April 2023
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice Sabina as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court of which she is presently the acting chief justice.
Justice Sabina's parent court is the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Keeping regard to seniority, the Collegium mentioned that Justice Sabina is "fit and suitable in all respects for the post."
Born on 20 April 1961, she was unanimously selected in 1986 as the joint secretary of the Bar Association of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In 1997, she joined as an additional district judge, and in 2004, became the sessions judge. In 2008, she was elevated as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and in 2010, was made a permanent judge of the high court.
In 2016, Justice Sabina was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court where she served as a judge for five years. Thereafter, in 2021, she took oath as the judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The Collegium, meanwhile, also stated that two other senior judges, Justice Jaswant Singh and Justice Rajesh Bindal from the Punjab and Haryana High Court have already been recommended for appointment to the Tripura High Court and the Supreme Court, respectively.
