Supreme Court Collegium recommends five as permanent judges of Madras High Court

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Governor had concurred with the recommendation

The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud has recommended the appointment of five additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges.

The five judges are Justices Sundaram Srimathy, D Bharatha Chakravarthy, R Vijaykumar, Mohammed Shaffiq, and J Sathya Narayana Prasad.

The names of the judges were recommended by the Madras High Court Collegium in November and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Governor concurred with the recommendation.

The Collegium's resolution stated, "With a view to assessing the merit and suitability of the additional judges for their appointment as permanent judges, the Collegium has scrutinized and evaluated the material placed on record, including the observations made by the Department of Justice in the file."

It further read, "The Collegium is of the view that the additional judges (1) Justice Sundaram Srimathy (2) Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy (3) Justice R. Vijayakumar (4) Justice Mohammed Shaffiq (5) Justice J. Sathya Narayana Prasad are suitable for being appointed as permanent judges."
