Senior counsel ARL Sundaresan appointed Additional Solicitor General of Madras High Court

He will hold the office for three years

The Central government has notified the appointment of senior counsel ARL Sundaresan as the Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG) of the Madras High Court.

The incumbent ASG R Sankaranarayanan has been designated as ASG for the entire Southern zone.

Both Sundaresan and Sankaranarayanan will hold the office for three years.

The son of former Supreme Court judge Dr Justice AR Lakshmanan, Sundaresan is the former President of the Madras Bar Association. He was the counsel for the Arumugasamy Commission of inquiry that probed the circumstances leading to the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Appointed as the ASG for the Madras High Court in 2020, R Sankaranarayanan has represented the Central government in several matters, including the public interest litigation on checking the spread of COVID-19 cases in the state.
