Kerala High Court orders against issuing fitness certificates for vehicles fitted with LED or flashlights
Proposes a fine of Rs.5,000 per alteration
The Kerala High Court has ruled that vehicles fitted with multi-coloured LED/laser/neon lights or flashlights cannot be granted a certificate of fitness, as they do not comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles laws.
The court added, on the contrary, such vehicles posed a potential threat to the safety of other vehicles, drivers, pedestrians, and road users.
On seeing the screenshots produced before it, the court stated that such vehicles were openly flouting the safety standards prescribed in AIS008. Therefore, those were to be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
The court ordered that in addition to the penal consequences under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, such a vehicle must be fined Rs.5,000 per alteration.
