Justice Shaji P Chaly Appointed Central Government Counsel in Supreme Court
The Kerala High Court judge had retired on May 29
Justice Shaji P Chaly has been appointed as a Counsel for the Government of India in the Supreme Court. His engagement was notified to the Group-A Panel by the Ministry of Law & Justice.
Added to the tentative consolidated list of panel counsel, for three years, he will represent the Central government in cases before the apex court.
Born on May 29, 1961, Justice Chaly procured his law degree from Maharajas Government Law College, Ernakulam. In 1986, he enrolled as an advocate and practiced before the Kerala High Court and subordinate courts in Ernakulam.
An extremely active member of the Bar, in 2014, he was elected as a president of the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association.
Justice Chaly was sworn in as an additional judge of the Kerala High Court on 10 April 2015 and became permanent in April 2017.
On demitting office on May 29 this year after his retirement, he returned to practicing law.
