Justice Ritu Bahri to assume charge as acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from 14 October
The Central Government’s Ministry of Law and Justice has issued a notification regarding the appointment of Justice Ritu Bahri as the acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court with effect from 14 October.
The notification read, “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Ritu Bahri, the judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice with effect from 14.10.2023 consequent upon the retirement of Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha.”
Justice Bahri completed her law degree from the Punjab University in 1985. A year later, she enrolled as an advocate and practiced in the high court till her elevation as a judge on 16 August 2010.
Justice Shanker was appointed as a judge of the high court in October 2005, initially serving at the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court in October 2019.
