The Delhi High Court has restrained One8 Commune from playing the songs of Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) till the pendency of the suit.
PPL had filed a copyright infringement suit against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli-owned One8 Commune, restraining it from using its songs at restaurants and cafes.
PPL claimed ownership of the copyright on the songs available on its website https://www.pplindia.org/songs and has the exclusive right to grant the copyright license. It submitted that One8 Commune was playing its songs without any copyright license and issued a legal notice to it.
However, One8 Commune never complied with the terms of the legal notice.
Phonographic Performance Limited was represented by Chander M Lall (senior advocate), along with the team of Khaitan & Co, led by Ankur Sangal (partner). The team also comprised Sucheta Roy (principal associate) Raghu Vinayak Sinha (associate), and Shaurya Pandey (associate).
