The Central government has notified the appointment of judicial officer Arvind Kumar Verma as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The promotion was shared through social media by the Union Minister of State (independent charge), Ministry of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The Chhattisgarh High Court Collegium had recommended Verma’s name for elevation in August last.
Thereafter, the Supreme Court Collegium consulted fellow judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court. It scrutinized the material placed on record, including the report of the Judgment Assessment Committee.
The resolution stated, “Bearing in mind the views of the consultee-judge on the suitability of the candidate, the report of the Judgment Assessment Committee, and the assessment made by the Government of India in the file, the Collegium is of the view that the officer is suitable for appointment as a judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh.”
The high court has been functioning with 15 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 22.
