Central Government Appoints Two New Additional Judges of Tripura High Court

Two judicial officers have been appointed as additional judges of the Tripura High Court, as per a notification issued by the Central government.

Arjun Ram Meghwal, Junior Minister of Law and Justice with independent charge, announced the appointments on X (formerly Twitter).

Judicial officers Biswajit Palit and Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha have been named as the two new additional judges.

The Supreme Court Collegium had on October 10 recommended their appointment for appointment as High Court judges, accepting the December 2021 recommendation of the High Court Collegium in this regard.

The proposals for their appointments were placed before the Supreme Court Collegium for final consideration as the Tripura Chief Minister and Governor failed to respond to these for over six weeks.

While Biswajit Palit is currently a Legal Remembrancer and Law Secretary with the Tripura government, Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha is the current Director of the Tripura Judicial Academy.

The Tripura High Court will soon function at its full sanctioned strength of five judges after Palit and P Urkayastha assume their charges.
