Bajaj Auto Sued For Trademark Infringement In Delhi High Court Over LML’s ‘Freedom’ Brand

It is a part of the company’s comprehensive strategy to revive and protect the iconic names

SG Corporate Mobility, the parent company of LML Limited, has filed a lawsuit before the Delhi High Court against Bajaj Auto Ltd, alleging unauthorized use of the trademark ‘Freedom’ on the latter's newly launched Bajaj Freedom CNG motorbikes.

SG asserted that it violated its trademark rights and tarnished the established reputation of the LML Freedom brand.

In 2022, LML introduced the ‘Freedom’ motorbikes in India. Soon, these garnered a reputation for durability, style, and performance. The success and lasting trust in LML persists, with many bikes still seen on the roads. LML had assigned the trademarks ‘LML’ and ‘Freedom’ to SG Corporate Mobility.

SG aimed to revitalize the brand through its sister concern, LML Emotion Pvt. Ltd. Since acquiring the trademarks, SG actively prepared to re-enter the two-wheeler market.

In 2022, it announced a strategic collaboration with Saera Electric Auto, the former manufacturer of Harley Davidson motorcycles in India, utilizing Saera's facility in Bawal, Haryana.

The company stressed, “Bajaj's use of the 'Freedom' mark on its motorcycles violates the statutory trademark rights and dilutes the established reputation associated with LML Freedom motorbikes."
