International law firm White & Case has advised TotalEnergies, a French multinational integrated energy and petroleum company on its acquisition of a 50 percent stake in Malaysia-headquartered SapuraOMV from Austrian oil and gas company OMV.
Founded in 1924, TotalEnergies is one of the seven supermajor oil companies.
SapuraOMV was established in 2018 as a 50-50 joint venture between Malaysia’s Sapura Energy and OMV. It holds a 40 percent and 30 percent operating interest in blocks SK408 and SK310 respectively. These are located offshore Sarawak in Malaysia. SapuraOMV also has exploration interests in Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
