Priyanka Chaudhari, Vice President Legal at Balaji Telefilms, has joined Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP as its Legal Director and Senior Counsel in the regional intellectual property vertical. Chaudhari was heading legal and regulatory affairs that included movies, OTT services and television, documentation, litigation, content operations, labor and regulatory work. She is the first lawyer in this role in India.

Chaudhari will be responsible for handling IP, trademark and content issues in India for the international entertainment streaming giant.

With Priyanka Chaudhari, Netflix has made a new Indian hire as it gets serious about Indian content. Chaudhari responsibilities include collaborating with Netflix’s creative, business, legal and other teams to acquire and develop intellectual property and guide them through production and distribution, serve as an internal cross-functional expert on all areas of IP law in India, manage claims of IP infringement at the pre-litigation stage and create and implement production clearance strategies for Indian content and advising on complex rights acquisitions and grants.

She will be reporting to Netflix’s head office in Los Angeles where a large legal team manages Netflix’s global and regional operations.

Chaudhari is a 2008 Rizvi Law College Mumbai graduate. She had previously worked at Bharti Axa Life Insurance Company between 2011 and 2013, Star India between 2013 and 2014, Zee Entertainment from 2015 to 2017 and Balaji Telefilms since January 2017.

She had also worked at Vigil Juris and Deval Patel Associates in Mumbai before she had moved in-house.
